If you feel that your teeth are not in good position you have to discuss with orthodontist regarding this matter and he may suggest you to wear a brace after inspection of your teeth, jaw and face etc. and X –ray pictures may be taken.
There are different type of braces are available such as traditional braces, clear braces, lingual braces, A-braces and aligners. Selection of braces will depend on the severity of your problem, allergic reactions to different metals and cost involved.
Moving teeth at younger stage is easier but braces can be used at any age. Removable braces are sufficient during early childhood. Usually braces have to be used about 2 to 3 years to and adjustments are made in 3-4 weeks interval to obtain the good results. Some people need permanent braces.
After the teeth moved to the real position retainers have to be used to retain the teeth at this position .This may wear temporally about 6 month or only during night or some time permanently.
Since food pieces can easily be retained around the braces more attention should be paid to avoid plaque development. Pain and discomfort are common after adjustment of braces .Allergic reactions and mouth sore may be possible when wearing a brace. Consult your orthodontists for such problems.
If braces and retainers are not used properly teeth are tend to move back to previous position.
